Let me at the outset take the bold step of undermining my own premise by saying I think a deadline trade involving Nolan Gorman is quite unlikely. The reporting tells us that “teams are asking about Gorman” as opposed to “the Cardinals are shopping Gorman.” That’s a welcome distinction. Still, the possibility of Gorman being moved in exchange for the swing-and-miss, controllable starting pitching for which the organization is so starved continues to concern me. And so I bleat from the nearest available mountaintop: Please do not trade Nolan Gorman. 

As a matter of general principle, no player is truly untrade-able, and it’s not hard to come up with a hypothetical swap that would move me to relent and say, sure, I’d deal Gorman for that. Maybe discussions land John Mozeliak on just such a deal before Tuesday, but I’m having trouble conjuring up a realistic trade scenario that would justify parting with Gorman. Now comes the part in which I attempt to validate this stance of mine.
