The Cardinals' end-of-season press conference wasn't all good news, but they got the most important thing right
The most important thing was Chaim Bloom's appointment as John Mozeliak's successor
Cardinals top brass as expected recently held an end-of-season press conference. Said press conference barely at all addressed the season just completed but was rather a forward-looking affair that mapped out the organization’s near-term and long-term future. The headline, of course, is that Chaim Bloom will take over as president of baseball operations – i.e., the team’s lead exec on the baseball side – following the 2025 season. John Mozeliak, to the consternation of many, will continue in that role through next season, thus fulfilling his current and final contract with the club. Then we got a strobe-lit glimpse of the extent to which the DeWitts will invest in the team’s success moving forward. Those are the three thrusts I want to talk about today: Bloom, Mozeliak, and the DeWitts. At the outset I’ll characterize what came out of the presser as “mostly but not entirely good.”
